Soft, light, fluffy and delicious chocolate bread. This takes time but boy is it worth it!

***Double the quantity to make more or bigger portions***

Ingredients

250g strong white bread flour

1/2 tsp salt

50g caster sugar

4g yeast (or about 1/2 sachet if you have the little sachets)

50g vegan butter

165ml vegan milk

1/4 jar of vegan chocolate spread (I used M&S vegan chocolate spread)

Method

STEP ONE

  • Sift the flour salt, sugar and yeast together into a large bowl

  • Add the butter and milk to a small bowl and pop in the microwave until the butter has melted and the liquid is warm (not boiling) 30 seconds should do it. (Alternatively warm in a small pan on the hob(

  • Add the milk and butter mixture to the flour and stir together until you form a large ball

  • Knead the dough for 5 minutes

  • Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough into the bowl. Cover with cling film and leave somewhere warm for around 90 MINUTES to prove (rise) or until the dough has doubled in size. (I place mine in the airing cupboard!)

STEP TWO

  • Once the dough has doubled in size you need to remove the air by ‘punching’ the dough. You will find the dough deflates slightly, this is okay.

  • Roll the dough (on a floured surface) into a rectangle approximately 40cm long and 25cm wide

  • Spread the vegan chocolate spread onto the dough

  • Roll the dough LENGTHWAYS and then slice into 10 rounds

  • Place the round dough pieces onto a lined baking tray

  • Time for the second rise - cover the dough with a clean tea towel and leave to rise again for another 20 minutes

STEP THREE

  • Whilst the dough is rising turn the oven on to 180C

  • When the dough has finished the second rise pop the baking tray into the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the bread is soft, fluffy and golden on top.

  • Remove from the oven and leave to cool for 5 minutes before tucking in!
