We all love chocolate spread however this can sometimes be tricky when you’re searching for plant based. I have purchased lots of vegan spreads that are all delicious but they are also often loaded with sugar and preservatives.
I have a simple vegan Nutella recipe that you can make in 20 minutes with only 5 ingredients making this a really healthy alternative that is also quick and easy to make.
NB: If you’re using hazelnut with the skins still on then remove the skins when you remove them from the oven by gently rubbing them with a clean teatowel.
This Nutella will keep fresh in the fridge for a couple of weeks
⠀
Ingredients
200g hazelnuts (no skins)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp cacao powder
4 tbsp agave or maple syrup
Small pinch salt
Method⠀
Warm the hazelnuts in the oven for 10 minutes 180C, be really careful not to let them burn as this will leave the ruin the taste of the Nutella, the idea is to gently heat the hazelnuts so that they are warm and oily making them easier to blend.
Remove the skins of you didn’t use hazelnuts with the skins already removed…simply rub the hazelnuts with a clan tea towel.
Add the warm hazelnuts to a high speed blender or food processor and blend. (they will blend quicker as they are already warmed)⠀
Total blend time will take about 7 minutes or so. Eventually the hazelnuts will begin to resemble a creamy consistency and then will quickly turn to nut butter. You will need to keep scraping the sides down and re-blending every minute or so.
Add the remaining ingredients to the warm smooth butter mixture and give another whizz up.⠀
Taste and add more sweetener if needed, however add the sweetener very slowly as the more you add, the firmer the mixture will become.⠀
If the mixture becomes too thick then you can add a little oil to the mixture to get it smoother.
This Nutella is great to load on to so many sweet treats.
Why not try these amazing bakes too.
If you do make this then I hope you love it
